Ondo - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has backed the deployment of soldiers for the coming general elections, reports The Sun.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State, Olusegun Agbaje, noted that voters feel secured  if army officers are involved in the voting process.

He said the presence of soldiers would encourage more turn out of voters for the election as they feel a sense of security, rather than create fears as being speculated largely by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and others.

Agbaje,  who was speaking during a town hall meeting in Akure, said military personnel do not go to polling booths, but are only stationed in different locations during elections to enforce the no-movement order of the government during elections.
