Lafia - The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nasarawa State on Thursday expressed readiness to conduct a free, fair and credible Governorship and House of Assembly elections on Saturday.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar-Danyaya, said this at a stakeholders' meeting in Lafia.

He added all sensitive materials meant for the state were ready for distribution to the 13 local government areas of the state.

The REC further disclosed that a by-election for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, declared inconclusive by the commission, would be conducted along with the Saturday's polls.

According to him, Card Readers used in the last election have been re-configured to ensure efficiency in the conduct of the exercise.

The REC urged political leaders to caution their followers against violence during the forthcoming polls.

He recalled that some Ad hoc staff and a number of supervisors were taken hostage in some polling units during the March 28 polls in some parts of the state.

Umar-Danyaya urged the people to cooperate with INEC and security agents while the candidates should be exemplary in their conduct, to achieve peaceful election.

He said the commission had fixed April 11 for the rescheduled House of Representatives election in Ciroma ward in Lafia, which was declared inconclusive on March 30.
