Lagos —The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), in Lagos State has said that it will take delivery of 400 000 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) next week, lamenting that a little over 1.8 million PVCs were still uncollected in the state.

It also noted that it would conduct the field testing of about 50 Smart Card Readers across 50 polling units in Lagos on March 7, 2015, so as to ascertain their functionality.

Briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Akin Orebiyi, said no fewer than 12 125 card readers would be deployed across the polling units during the general elections.

He said: ‘’We want to access the efficiency and effectiveness of the smart card readers. We are also going to find out how long it takes to accredit an intending voter.

If there are challenges n that process, we will correct such challenges. Lagos and Ekiti states have been chosen for this exercise in the South West geo-political zone.

“The exercise will hold on Saturday in a chosen electoral ward. In Lagos, we decided to chose a ward in Ikeja Local Government Area.

We chose Ikeja because it is the capital of this state,” he said.
