Abakaliki - The Labour Party in Ebonyi State has described as false an alleged N100m donation by Governor Martin Elechi in support of the party’s campaigns for the forthcoming general elections.
The allegation is coming on the heels of persistent accusation of anti party activities against Governor Elechi by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Elechi is accused of sponsoring Labour Party and working against President Goodluck Jonathan by PDP, an allegation he has severally denied.
The Media Director for the Labour Party Governorship candidate, Dr. Chike Onwe denied that the governor gave out N100m to the party, stressing that Elechi was not a member of the party.
It was alleged by PDP members in the state that Elechi doled out the amount to the Labour Party during last Saturday’s rally organized by the party in support of President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid.

The source further stated that the money was expected to be distributed to the 171 electoral wards of the state through the help of Development Centre Coordinators and local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen.
Meanwhile, the state wing of the National Youth Council of Nigeria ( NYCN) has condemned the alleged donation by the government.
Reacting to the development at a news briefing, the President of the group, Sam Igwe stated that it was abnormal, selfish and wrong for the governor, who is disguising to be a member of the PDP, to sponsor Labour party activities with public funds, despite the present socio-economic condition of the state.
Igwe described Elechi as a black sheep in PDP fold and called on members of the state House of Assembly to facilitate the process for the impeachment of the governor as the youths of the state were solidly behind them.
"It is wickedness on the governor to release such money to LP despite the ongoing strike action by workers in the state.
"How can Gov. Elechi receive Labour Party officials in the government house and then call himself a PDP member; he should be expelled from the party".
