Lamido confirms betraying his G-7 colleagues

2015-02-25 13:18

Abuja - Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa on Tuesday admitted that he betrayed his ‘’G-7’’ governors in their face-off against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He stated this in a reaction to an allegation by his Kano state counterpart, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, that he betrayed the group of seven governors which was fighting a common cause against the PDP.

Lamido, who spoke with newsmen at PDP National Secretariat in Abuja after a closed-door meeting he had with the party's national leadership, said "I betrayed them, yes I did; I am aligning myself with what he (Kwankwaso) said."

Kwankwaso had said that Lamido betrayed the aggrieved governors by not joining them to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as they agreed in 2013.

The seven governors were Lamido, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, Abdultatai Ahmed of Kwara and Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, who was later impeached.

While all the governors defected to APC, Lamido and Aliyu remained in the PDP, an action seen by the public as betrayal to their colleagues.

On his alleged disagreement with Governor Amaechi, Lamido debunked it as rumour, saying "I and Amaechi remain good friends and colleagues."

He, however, explained that although he could discuss issues of national interest with his colleagues who had left the PDP, he would not defect to the APC.
