Lafia - The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Nasarawa State has pledged to ensure prompt distribution of election materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the forthcoming general elections.

Malam Usman Matu, Secretary of NURTW in the state, made the pledge at a stakeholders meeting in Lafia on Tuesday.

According to Matu, the pledge is pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between INEC and its national body towards ensuring prompt and proper distribution of election materials to various polling units across the country.

"NURTW will be fully involved in the 2015 general elections because there is agreement between INEC and NURTW for conveying electoral materials," he said.

Matu stressed that the synergy between INEC and NURTW was as a result of the successes recorded by the two organizations in the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.

"In view of this, INEC now calls on NURTW to enter into contract to convey all electoral materials".

He said NURTW officials had been well sensitized on guidelines to follow in delivering the materials in good time and shape.

The secretary expressed confidence that NURTW officials would carry out the assignment without bias.

He advised people to avoid politics of bitterness and all forms of violence before, during and after the upcoming elections.

He said no meaningful progress can be made in an atmosphere of rancour.
