Nasarawa APGA suspends legal adviser over Maku’s guber candidature

2015-01-06 21:48
Lafia - The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nasarawa State on Tuesday suspended its legal adviser, Barrister Ayiwulu Baba Ayiwulu, over his statement on the party’s governorship candidate Labaran Maku.

Ayiwulu has said on the state-owned broadcast station that Mathew Ombugaku emerged the party’s candidate after he was duly adopted on December 9, a statement which irked the party leadership given that former Information Minister Labaran Maku was at the weekend unveiled as its candidate.

The party’s state chairman, Ifeanyi Omakor, told newsmen that Barrister Ayiwulu was suspended by the state executive committee after due consultation.

He said the legal adviser’s statement was ill-motivated and calculated to ruin the party.

The suspension came barely two days after the party formerly declared Maku its guber candidate at a Lafia ceremony attended by Ombugaku’s campaign Director General, Mohammed Buba and chieftains and executive members of the party in the state.

But Barrister Ayiwulu insisted he was not suspended, citing breaches of the party’s due process.

He said he was neither given fair hearing, nor written about his suspension, but only woke up to hear the news that he was suspended.

He said he would go to court to challenge his suspension.
