Abuja - The battle over who becomes the next Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 8th National Assembly has taken a new twist, reports The Sun.
The new twist follows the decision of non-ranking members in the House to present a candidate for the top office.
The non-ranking members, who constitute two-thirds of the House are planning to sponsor a candidate for the speakership election.

The new members are pushing for one of their own, Hon Philip Shuaibu from Edo State to become the Speaker.
Shuaibu is currently a member of the Edo State House of Assembly and former president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
By the House rules, new members are barred from either heading committees or being part of the leadership.
