Niger - Police were ordered to disperse Niger Assembly
members after they had planned to impeach Governor Babangida Aliyu, Punch
Police and other security had locked up the gates of the
Assembly complex to prevent the coming in and going out of people when they
fired tear gas canisters.

About 20 members gathered to begin the impeachment of Aliyu,
following allegations that he had failed to carry members of the Assembly along
The members then left after they were dispersed by policemen
and security officials and are said to be gathering in an unknown location.
