Minna - The Niger chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned some members of the party to desist from parading themselves as candidates for the State Assembly elections.

Alhaji Umar Ma'ali, the party's Acting Chairman, gave the warning on Friday in a statement made available to newsmen in Minna.

The statement said such actions were illegal and would be viewed as anti-party activities, adding that punitive measures the awaited perpetrators.

It cautioned two contestants in Lapai, and Lavun areas against such actions which it said were capable of disrupting the internal cohesion of the party in state.

It said the two politicians were reportedly parading themselves as standard flag bearers of the party after they were defeated by other contestants at the primaries.

“The Niger PDP will not hesitate to deal with any party member found disregarding laid down party rules or decisions.

“The Niger PDP is lucky to have people with proven integrity and tested political sagacity.

"Hence, I am optimistic that those who are presently parading themselves as our candidates will listen to the voice of reason," the release said.

It urged members of the party to continue to work as a family in order to have a successful outing in the February general elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Hajiya Hannatu Salihu and Alhaji Sule Yakubu emerged as the party's candidates in the two areas during the primaries, respectively.
