Abuja – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressive Congress of running the country into the brink of dictatorship.
The party stated this during a press conference addressed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, at the party Secretariat in Abuja.
“We are at the verge of a quick slide into dictatorship and the personal freedom we all enjoy today is about to be obliterated. We had earlier told Nigerians that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had no clear agenda on how to govern our dear country,” he said.
Rather than concentrate on how to manage the mandate they now hold, APC had resorted to seeking ways to stifle opposition and impose a one-party system and complete totalitarian rule in our country, he added.
“Recent happenings in the country are a grievous development and worrisome trend which is not only inimical to the stability of the nation but also the collective wellbeing of all citizens,” Metuh said.

He said reports reaching the party leadership from across the country show that the APC had been desperately seeking ways to destabilize their ranks and weaken their formations by approaching some senior members of PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) with promises and threats ostensibly to use them to cross over to APC.
He said the PDP had it on good authority that part of this agenda of the APC was to intimidate and harass PDP members especially officials who served under the outgoing administration.
Metuh said the PDP leadership under the chairmanship of Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu would not condone any witch-hunt on any of its elected and appointed officers.
Metuh added that the party will do everything humanly possible within the rules to defend democratic principles and ethics, which they have successfully nourished in the past 16 years.
“On this note we charge our members to be vigilant and continue to work our leaders at all levels. The PDP strongly believe that our democratic journey got this far because of the open space our administration gave to all political players including the APC and we will not, even in the role of opposition watch our nation slide into dictatorship.”
