PDP wins Anambra North senatorial

Onitsha - The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Anambra North Senatorial and Onitsha North/South Federal Constituency elections.

Sunday Okaro, the Independent National Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the zone, on Monday declared Princess Stella Oduah and Emeka Idu winners of the elections, respectively.

Declaring the results before newsmen, party agents and security agents, Okaro said that Oduah (PDP) polled 143,478 votes out of 220,714 valid votes.

He Idu, the PDP candidate for Onitsha North/South Federal Constituency, polled 48,754 votes out of 72,545 valid votes counted. 

"And now finally for the day, by the powers conferred on me, INEC electoral laws as amended; I, Okaro Celestine Sunday, hereby certify, one, that I was the returning officer for the Anambra North Senatorial District election held on the 28th day of March, 2015.

"That the election was contested, that the candidates received the following votes; one, honorable Ralph Okereke (of) APC  - 6, 891; Chukwudubem A. Obaze (of) APGA  - 70, 906; Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah (of) PDP  - 143,478.

"For, that, Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah (of the PDP having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and returned." 

Oduah, who was a former Minister of Aviation, beat her close rival with a distance margin of 72,572 votes.

However, Idu, who is still representing Onitsha North 2 State Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, beat his rival, Anthonia Tabansi-Okoye of APGA, who polled 21,622 votes.

In his reaction to the outcome of the election, Idu said that his victory was due to the overwhelming support of the people of the constituency.
