Abuja - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday said it would embark on a special campaign on non-violence to sensitise the youths to the need for peace during the elections.

The National Youth Leader of the party, Mr Maibasira Abdullahi, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He said that the campaign would be flagged off on Feb. 23 in Lokoja, Kogi.

Abdullahi, who is also the Director of Youth Mobilisation, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, explained that the campaign would be nationwide and was being organised by the youth wing of the party.

He said that the exercise was designed to educate people, particularly youths, on the need to eschew violence during elections.

He said that the campaign was borne out the need to make the public to understand the impact of hate-speech by politicians on their followers.

"What leaders say and do go a long way in influencing their followers.

"The essence of this is to ensure that the message of non-violence election gets to the youths at the grassroots,’’ he said.

"Change is a permanent feature of life; while others may be advocating for change, be it gradual or radical, we, as a party have already started it,’’ Abdullahi added.

He said the youths of the party had organised other sensitisation sessions ‘’in form of town hall meetings in Cross River, Sokoto, Ondo, Minna and Lagos’’.
