PDP's Okowa wins Delta State

Delta - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship  candidate, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, has been declared  the winner of the last Saturday’s Delta State governorship election, Thisday reports.

The PDP candidate polled a total of 724 680 votes to defeat his Labour Party Peoples (LP) counterpart, Great Ogboru who garnered 130 028 votes.

The result, which was announced at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Asaba by the State Returning Officer, Professor Bio Nyanayo, in the early hours of Monday after the initial delay in turning in the election results from the 25 local government areas, also saw the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Olorogun O’tega  Emerhor  scoring  67 825 votes to come third in the election.

The victory of PDP in the state was received with wild jubilation in Asaba, the state capital, and across the state as supporters of the PDP trooped out en masse to celebrate the victory.
