Jos - The Plateau Police command said it had deployed over 4000 officers and men to cover the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

DSP Emmanuel Abu, the Command's Public Relations Officer, said this in an interview with media personnel on Thursday in Jos.

''Because of the seriousness and importance attached to the forthcoming elections, we are going to involve all officers and men of the command.

''We have a total strength of over 4000 personnel, and all of us will be fully involved during the elections,'' Abu said.

He said the officers to be deployed would act in accordance with the electoral guidelines.

He, however, said that the policemen would adopt two formations in the course of the elections.

The police spokesman said the first would be the inner ring formation which would involve officers that would be close to the electoral officers and materials, and that such personnel would not be armed.

He said the second one was the outer ring formation which would involve officers on duty with arms, and that they would be stationed within the voting vicinity in case of any eventualities.
