Yola - A cross section of politicians in Yola, Adamawa, have commended President Goodluck Jonathan for congratulating the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

The politicians in Yola on Wednesday said that Jonathan's phone call to Buhari was an act of statesmanship.

Alhaji Yayaji Gombi, a PDP stalwart, described the president’s phone call as a milestone in Nigerian democracy.

"President Goodluck Jonathan has shown that he is a true democrat that is leaving a legacy that no any political leader in Nigeria has done," he said.

Gombi described Jonathan as a "hero" and urged Nigerian political leaders to emulate him.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting free and fair elections.

On PDP’s failure at polls, he said that the party's imposition of candidates was the major reason for PDP’s dismal outing.

Also, Alhaji Abubakar Girei, a member of APC, lauded Jonathan for conducting free and fair election in the country.

Girei said that the simplicity of the president has saved Nigeria from another post-election violence.

Pastor Maxwell Zira of Saint Paul Church, Jimeta-Yola, described the victory of Buhari  as "Almighty Allah’s intervention".

He called for collective prayer and support for guidance to Buhari to lead Nigeria to greater heights at this crucial time of insecurity.
