Lagos – Twitter has been abuzz with furry following the weekend announcement of the postponement of the country's crucial elections.
With just a week to the go to the polls, the country's general election was postponed on security grounds, handing a potential lifeline to the ruling party as it battles a persistent challenge from the main opposition, according to reports.
The elections were pushed from 13 February to 28 March, while the state gubernatorial and legislative votes were moved to 11 April.
The announcement provoked fury among many.
According to Africa Check, many citizens in Nigeria view the postponement as a desperate attempt by government to maintain power. They (citizens) theorise that the government is seeking to better prepare a fixed election.
