Abuja - The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has commenced investigations into the failed bomb explosion at a polling station.

According to the police, its operatives, working in partnership with sister security agencies in the state, averted what would have caused a serious damage and loss of live sat a polling station identified as WTC Polling Station.

It has three polling units located in Ogui.

Police added that a heavy presence of security operatives at the venue, prevented a black Honda Accord car with registration number KUJ 971 LB, driven by yet to be identified persons and loaded with some suspected improvise explosive devices (IED) from reaching its target.

The vehicle is said to have exploded on a road behind the polling station.

The Police Explosive Unit promptly intervened and detonating the remaining IEDs and also making the entire location safe.

Meanwhile, the polling station near the scene is experiencing heavy turnout of voters.

Commissioner of Police, Dan Bature, and other heads of sister security agencies were also at the scene to assure voters and members of the public about the readiness of the security agencies.

It is suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, which have suffered heavy losses against the military ahead of elections, were behind the plot in Enugu.

It was reported on Saturday members of the sect had bombed some polling stations as Nigeria went to elections to elect its next president.
