Abuja - The President of Cote D'voire, Allassane Quattara has lauded the peaceful manner in which outgoing president Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat and labelled it as leaving a legacy in Africa.

He said the Economic Community of West African States owed Jonathan a lot for taking steps to forestall a civil war in the country.

Quattara said that he appreciated Jonathan's gesture of peace as he had personally experienced violence after defeating his predecessor, Lawrent Gbagbo.

He further stated that these actions brought a civil war within his country, so he is well equipped to appreciate the actions of Jonathan, as it ensured that the same wouldn't happen in Nigeria.

He added that this should be an example to other African states of how to stage a peaceful transition in power.
