Port Harcourt - Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Monday asserted their independence by rejecting the candidate of the former First Lady, Patience Jonathan for the Speaker of the House, reports PM News.
The House during its inaugural sitting unanimously elected Ikunyi Igbani as the new Speaker against Evans Bipi, the candidate of Patience Jonathan.
Against all expectation Igbani was the only nominee for the position of Speaker and was unanimously voted without rancour by the 32 members.

Marshall Uwom was elected as Deputy Speaker.
Bipi was the leader of the five anti-Amaechi lawmakers and has been openly addressed as Speaker by the former First Lady.
