Port Harcourt – A curfew imposed on Rivers State by Governor Chibuike Amaechi has been lifted.

News24 Nigeria can report that the indefinite curfew – 7pm-6am which was imposed on Monday following post-election unrest, was lifted on Thursday as peace has returned to the state.

Over 2 000 protesters, which include women, took to the streets on Saturday, Sunday and returned on Monday, insisting election was not held freely in the state, and as a result should be cancelled.

The protesters were All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters who lamented of being disenfranchised.

But with the outcome of the presidential election going in favour of APC’s Muhammadu Buhari, and with everyone now returned to their normal business, the curfew has on Thursday been lifted.

Buhari of All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 15,424,921 votes, as against President Goodluck Jonathan’s People’s Democratic Party’s 12,853,162.
