Security and Civil Defence Corps deploys for weekend poll

Lagos - The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed thousands of its personnel for the Saturday’s gubernatorial and State House of Assembly election.

These have been deployed in the 36 states of the federation, in addition to the earlier deployment made during the presidential election.

Okeh Emmanuel, NSCDC Public Relations Officer, said Government had put in place efforts to make the elections exercise smooth and hitch free.

“Hence its deployment of personnel to every nooks and crannies of the state especially the identified flashpoints considered notorious and volatile,” he said.

“As stakeholders in the Nigeria’s electoral process, the Corps is expected to re-double its effort and work hard to deliver a violence free election,” added Emmanuel.

The NSCDC has also assured the nation of the deployment of at least 500 trained sniffer dogs, 300 operational vehicles, 100 surveillance vehicles and ambulances to further boost the security of the electorate, electoral official as well as sensitive and non-sensitive materials before, during and after the election.

Nigeria, Africa’s biggest country by population and economy, will this weekend for the last installment of polls.

Last month’s historic Presidential elections, won by opposition leader, Mahammadu Buhari, were internationally acclaimed.
