Shettima takes lead in Borno governorship race

Abuja - Early results of the Saturday governorship and state legislative elections in Borno State show incumbent, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, coasting to victory.
The results brought in from 21 local governments to the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC's) collation centre in Maiduguri indicate Shettima, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), having a landslide lead over his closest opponent, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Gambo Lawan.
The results at the time of going to press are: Mafa (APC 10 734, PDP 59), Nganzai (APC 3 696 PDP 74), Kukawa (APC 12 486 PDP 293), Dikwa (APC 11 168 PDP 210), Kala Balge (APC 10 474 PDP 68), Kaga (APC 10 414 PDP 105), Guzamala (APC 8 361 PDP 12), Magumeri (APC 10 038 PDP 384), Bayo (APC 17 968  PDP 1 985) and Kwaya Kuzar (APC 18 678 PDP 1 620).

APC was leading in similar fashion in several other councils.

Meanwhile, APC has cleared all the 21 seats at the Borno State House of Assembly as announced so far by INEC.

Elections results were still expected in some local government areas of the state as at the time of sending this report.
