Enugu - Efforts by President Goodluck Jonathan to elicit the support  of the South- east in the presidential election has suffered a major setback, reports Daily Trust.

The decision making body of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has rejected a motion seeking to adopt President Goodluck Jonathan as the consensus candidate of Ndigbo for the February 14 presidential election.

The inner caucus of the organisation, known as Imeobi threw out the motion brought by Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, seeking the endorsement of Jonathan.

In rejecting the motion, the organisation said it would be suicidal for Ndigbo to endorse one candidate at the expense of the other, especially when Jonathan has failed to redeem promises he made to Ndigbo.
