Makurdi - Governor Gabriel Suswan has lost his ambition to return to the National Assembly after an eight-year stint as Governor of Benue.

Suswam was elected governor in 2007 after serving two terms as a member of the House of Representatives.

Benue North East Senatorial District, where the governor contested, is the largest in the state, covering Logo, Ukum, Katsina-Ala, Kwande, Ushongo, Konshisha and Vandeikya local government areas.

Announcing the results in Makurdi, the Returning Officer Professor Mohammed Adah, said Chief Barnabas Gemade of APC polled 140,715 votes to beat Suswam.

Suswam scored 118,603 votes.

Meanwhile, Rep. Emmanuel Udende of the PDP won the Sankera Federal Constituency seat.

He beat challenger, Shimataver Atezeh of the APC, to retain his membership of the National Assembly.

Announcing the results in Makurdi, the returning officer for the election, Moses Agbaji, said Udende scored 71,359 votes to beat Atezeh who had 24,358 votes.

Reacting to the results, the PDP agent for the senatorial election, Solomon Wombo, called for the cancellation of the exercise, alleging irregularities in four local government areas.

Both results were declared in Makurdi, instead of Katsina-Ala, the headquarters of the senatorial district due to spontaneous crisis that broke out during collation of results.

The crisis led to the torching of an INEC office in Ugba.
