Owerri - Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo says there is hope for the nation's democracy.

Okorocha said this after being accredited at his home town in Eketa Ogboko Ward 2 in Ideato South Local Government Area on Saturday.

He urged Imo electorate to ensure that they were accredited to cast their votes.

While stressing the need for peaceful election, the governor said that the nation's collective interest was greater than any individual, group or party interest.

"People should cast their votes and do the necessary good things despite any form of provocation. I am hopeful that at the end, the mandate of the people will speak."

The governor said that accreditation started in his ward while the card reader took about two minutes to recognise his PVC.

Okorocha, however, decried the alleged ill-treatment of some youths in his community by some soldiers.

He alleged that some indigenes of Ogboko were locked up by soldiers, whom he said, claimed that they were involved in illegal gathering, describing it as 'man's inhumanity to man'.

On the arrest of his special adviser on security matters and four members of the state vigilante group by the Police, Okorocha described it as 'much ado about nothing'.

"The men were not caught with AK 47 but with only three pump action rifles," he said.

He said that before now, the state security outfits had been working in collaboration with the police to curb crime in the state.
