US deploys marines in anticipation of post election violence

Lagos - As the country prepares to cast their votes in the elections, the US has sent a battalion of Marines in anticipation of post-election violence, Naij reports.

Hundreds of US Marines have been stationed in Neighbouring Ghana in anticipation of post-election violence, in what has been a chaotic presidential campaign.

Nigerians will today choose their president as well as members of the federal legislature.

It is believed that the marines will likely be used to evacuate any American citizens if violence breaks out.

With Nigeria being the biggest country and economy in Africa, if violence erupts, it could spread throughout the continent with devastating results.

US President, Barrack Obama, posted a YouTube video calling for calm with secretary of state, John Kerry visiting Nigeria recently to advocate a peaceful elections.
