Voting commenced late in many polling stations

Abuja - Voting commenced late in many polling stations across the country in the 2015 Presidential and Senatorial elections.

Some polling stations concluded accreditation by 2.30 p.m., one hour behind the 1.30 p.m. schedule for actual voting to commence.

At the 015 polling unit in Jikwoyi, 608 people were accredited and the exercise was concluded at exactly 2:15 p.m. while voting started by 2:30 p.m. while 3, 992 people were accredited at unit 017, with voting starting at 2:25 p.m.

In all the polling units visited, old women and men, the sick and pregnant women were accredited and allowed to vote first.

Ninety-two-year-old Mrs Rose Nkirikami expressed joy that she was privileged to witness this year's election.

"I don’t think I will have the opportunity again. I am old and might not experience any other election; I have tried and I thank God for this opportunity.

"I wish whoever wins God’s wisdom to discharge his duties,'' she said.

Meanwhile, in Gombe south, no fewer than four polling stations commenced voting by approximately 1:30 p.m. while in Darazo town in Bauchi state, voting did not begin until about 2:21 p.m.

However, voting commenced at the LEA Pimary School, 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa Estate, at 3:30 p.m. with 764 accredited voters. Seven hundred and six voters were accredited electronically while 58 persons filled the incidence form.

People who filled the incidence form included those whose cards were accepted by the card reader but their names were not found in the register and those whose names were found in the register while their cards were rejected by the machine.
