Voting commences in Edo amid pockets of violence

Benin - Voting commenced on scheduled during Saturday’s House of Assembly election in all the 18 local government areas in Edo, amid pockets of violence in some areas.

Governorship election was not conducted in Edo, while National Assembly election held in the areas the exercise was suspended on March 28.

Voting started at about 1.30 most voting units in the three senatorial districts, as accreditation process ended on scheduled.

In Edo North senatorial district, voting started around 1.30 p.m. in Sabondida-Ora,Uzebba, in Owan West Local Government Area.

 In Iyamho polling unit in Estako West Local Government Area, voting process like in other centres commenced on scheduled without hitches.

In Edo South senatorial district, voting in Orhionmwon, Egor, Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha and Ovia North East, commenced on scheduled.

In Edo Central, voting also commenced as scheduled, while the process went on smoothly.

 The voting process commenced in most polling units in Esan North, Igueben and Esan South West local government areas at about 1.30 p.m.

There were few cases of violence in Udo in Ovia South West Local Government Area and Oredo Local Government Area both in Edo South.

 At Opoji in Esan North Local Government Area, there was a reported case of an invasion of the polling units by thugs, which was repelled.
