Nigeria elections

Lagos - The President of the Northern Youth Assembly, Ibrahim Waiya, appealed to youth to embrace peace ahead of the transfer of power to newly-elected President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari, elected this past weekend, will resume duty on May 29.

“We also wish to call on the entire Nigerian youths, not to allow themselves to be used by men of violence and politicians of greed to disrupt the fragile peace in the country, that we have no any other country than Nigeria. We therefore have a duty to protect and preserve it at all cost,” said Waiya.

Meanwhile, Waiya congratulate the Nigerians over the success in the recently concluded Presidential polls.

He congratulated Buhari.

“His victory has proved that Nigeria is gradually becoming one of the democratically matured and developed and is about to compete with other advanced democracies in the world,” Waiya said.

“Our sincere appreciation also goes the International Communities and Organizations for their untiring efforts at ensuring the success of the Nigerian transition, such as USA, UK, AU and the EU. Today, history has been made, which also proved that, the ultimate political power belongs only to the people, not some few.”

Waiya also appreciated the “maturity and a true sense of patriotism” demonstrated by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for heeding to his pledge to accept whatever, the outcome of the elections results.

“This has therefore qualified him to be an elder statesman. We are indeed proud of you, for having the Nigeria' future above all other considerations or sentiments.”
