20th Century Fox to adapt another comic book

18 December 2013, 12:40

Los Angeles - 20th Century Fox will adapt comic book Starlight into a movie.

The movie studio has acquired the rights to Mark Millar's upcoming miniseries and will create a film based on the graphic novels, which Simon Kinberg will produce, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Millar previously worked as a consultant on Fox's comic book films, including X-Men, Fantastic Four and the upcoming Secret Service.

What it's about

Starlight is described as "Flash Gordon meets The Dark Knight Rises" and centers on a superhero who, after saving the entire universe 35 years ago, is now retired until a menacing new threat coaxes him out of his quiet, normal life.

The comic book series isn't expected to be released until next year.

Millar has previously penned issues of X-Men and other comic books and is also the brains behind Kick-Ass, which has been adapted into two films, and Wanted.

Work in production

Matthew Vaughn - who directed the first Kick-Ass - is currently shooting an adaptation of his hit comic book, The Secret Service, which will star Colin Firth in the lead role.

Starlight will be produced for Fox by X-Men producer-and-writer Simon Kinberg after he was recently tapped to oversee the studio's comic book properties.
