London – Chiwetel Ejiofor, British actor of Nigerian descent, will be playing African hero Patrice Lumumba in the play, A Season in the Congo on the London stage, All Africa reports.
Ejiofor’s parents were student sweethearts who fled Nigeria to Britain during the Biafran War. His breakout role came in 2002 film Dirty Pretty Things, since then he has won many awards as well as received his OBE.
This year he filmed the adaption of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Half of a Yellow Sun, which was set in Nigeria, as well as the soon to be released 12 Years a Slave, in where he starred alongside Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Paul Giamatti.
"In terms of ambition it is not really what parts I want to play or anything, it is more what I want to feel," he says. "I look at scripts really for whether they can be moving or penetrate some kind of truth.”
