20 August 2014, 13:36

Abuja - Nigerian multi award winning record producer, musician and songwriter, Michael Ajereh, popularly called Don Jazzy, has joined American celebrities in the online ice bucket challenge for charity in the U.S.

The American celebrities included TV Queen Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gate and NBA Player Lebron James.

Others are singers Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber as well as Facebook inventor Mark Zuckerberg and Actress Kerry Washington who is married to a Nigerian Nnamdi Asemogha.

The online challenge, which has gone viral, has so far raised $15.6 million.

The challenge, #ALSIceBucketChallenge, entails getting wet with buckets of ice cube or water to raise funds and create awareness on the disease known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

ALS, often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neuron-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

The challenge was to dare anyone pour a bucket of ice water over their heads within  24 hours or else donate some money to the ALS Trust Fund.

After the challenge, the person involved can nominate three other people to take up the challenge or donate more money.

Don Jazzy has nominated other celebrities, including Dr Sid, D’Prince, Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, Di’Ja as well as Banky W, Iyanya, Davido, Wizkid, Steve Babaeko and Obi Asika.

Jazzy was nominated by Dencia, Cameroonian/Nigerian singer and maker of controversial ‘whitenicious’ body cream.

Dencia also nominated other Nigerian celebs including the team at BellaNaija, Genevieve Nnaji, 2Face Idibia, D’banj, Waje, Wizkid, and Tiwa Savage, after getting herself wet with ice water.
