Owerri - Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo has pledged a trip to South Africa, new cars and
drivers, a title and opening of website for winners of ‘Ada’ and ‘Opara’
Imo Beauty Contest.
He made the promise during the official launching of beauty contest on Friday in Owerri.
According to Okorocha, winners will be provided with body guards if
they accept, and winners of second and third positions will be rewarded
"The 2nd positions will receive N1 million each and a trip to Abuja, while the 3rd positions will get N500 000 each and a ticket to spend a weekend at the Imo Concord Hotel.
"The communities or community that will produce ‘Ada’ and ‘Opara’
Imo will be given a brand new bus; so all the communities must be
represented,” he stressed.
The governor stressed the need for Igbo people to preserve their
culture, pointing out that people were identified by their culture.
He advised the contestants to be fully prepared and called on the judges to be fair in their judgments.
"All contestants must be able to sing the Imo anthem and know what
it stands for. Your attires must be an Igbo one and your traditional
rulers must usher you in. These are part of the criteria,” he said.
Okorocha called on the traditional rulers to take the pride of place and ensure that the contestants follow instructions.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Community Government and Chieftaincy
Affairs, Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro, advised the contestants who could not
participate now to do so at the final competition.
"The state government has given all the communities the opportunity
to participate. The date of the final competition will be announced on
the radio,” she said.
