Industry braces for local Cannes Festival awards

14 March 2014, 11:06

Lagos - Chini productions, the local official Cannes Lions Festival representatives, will next weekend hold its annual awards and dinner, one of the most eagerly-anticipated events in the Nigerian marketing and communications industry.

The event is scheduled for 22 March at Planet One, Maryland in Lagos.

Speaking on the uniqueness of this year’s event, a spokesperson of CHINI Productions said, “We are particularly excited about this year’s event because we are now beginning to see the results of previous efforts in the industry. Never before did the industry employ this number of highly talented and skilled youths. This is what we have always strived for and this is good news for the future of the industry.”

The dinner and awards is a culmination of various Cannes Lions national competitions including the Young Lions Competition in Media, Creative and PR categories, the Roger Hatchuel Academy for students preparing to work in the ad industry and the Miami Ad School Scholarship Competition.

The programme of events begins next Wednesday with the briefing of the competitors by the Mystery Client at the Fusion Hall of Planet One. Depending on the category of competition, the competitors will have either 24 hours or 72 hours to turn their response to the clients brief.

The winning teams in each category will have the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the international competition in their category during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in France from 15 - 21 June 2014.

The winner of the Roger Hatchuel Academy competition will also qualify as Nigeria’s delegate to the Roger Hatchuel Academy in Cannes, a high-profile one week training for international students during the Festival.

The Advertising Practitioners’ Council of Nigeria (APCON) supports the Roger Hatchuel Academy.

The winners of the Miami Ad School Scholarship competition will be awarded tuition scholarships to study at any Miami Ad School campus of the choice in the world offering classes in English to international students.
