Lagos cruise boat to get new lease of life

19 March 2014, 13:20

Lagos - The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said arrangement was on to restore the 350 capacity Eko Tourist cruise boat it bought in 1998.

Ashamu Fadipe, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Tourism and Inter-governmental Relations, said this in an interview.

Fadipe said that after the rehabilitation of the boat, the state government planned to convert the facility into a stationary floating lounge for leisure, relaxation and social engagements.

“Government has decided to put back to use the 350 capacity Eko Tourist cruise boat purchased by the state in 1998.

“We intend to rehabilitate and convert the vessel into a floating event facility that will attract various corporate and social events. After going through rigorous bidding process, Exclusive Lounge Ltd., Lagos was given the nod to rehabilitate the boat. The boat is expected to start operation soon,” he said.

Fadipe said that the state government was determined to make the state the preferred destination for business and leisure travellers.

He said that the ministry would continue to operate within the framework of partnership arrangement in its drive to develop the tourism opportunities in the state.

Fadipe said that tourism was one of the items on the Lagos State transformation agenda.

“This administration is committed to make Lagos city a preferred tourist destination in Africa and a one stop shop for business and leisure travellers,” he said.
