Lagos to get PMAN music institution

26 June 2014, 21:18

Lagos - Omatsola Iseli, a member of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), said on Thursday that the association had concluded plans to establish a music institution in Lagos, to boost the entertainment industry.

Iseli said  in Lagos that the institution would afford upcoming artists the opportunity to have an in-depth training in the field.

"Music is all about education and it has been noticed that every musician in the country plays the same kind of music. The fact that everybody wants to be a superstar has caused all musicians to play all manners of music that make no sense to the audience. It is, therefore, important for an institution to be set up to train artists in the right way of doing the business," Iseli said.

According to him, sanctions will be meted out to artists who play music that are not in accordance with the guidelines of the association.

Iseli, who was a former President of PMAN, advocated that the content of every music be checked before it was aired to the public.

Iseli added that the poor content of most music was borne out of the laziness of the musician "who just wants to get the job done within a week’’.

"In the '70s, most musicians spent three months in the studio, trying to get a perfect job done. Musicians of nowadays want to spend a week to get the job done,'' he said.

Iseli added that the effort was to make the entertainment industry profitable, as it was in other countries.
