Movie directors tasked on professionalism, execellence

02 October 2014, 20:30

Abuja -  Stakeholders in the entertainment industry have challenged movie directors to add professionalism and excellence in the production of movies in the country.

Some experts in the entertainment industry made the call on Tuesday in an interview in Abuja.

Lagos - Dr Isaiah Ilo, lecturer of Theatre Arts, University of Abuja said directing is the bedrock of any production, either stage play or movie as the case may be.

"The director is seen as the mind and voice of the scriptwriter. He interprets the message the writer is trying to pass to the public using actors and actresses.A good director should be able to communicate the desired intention of the scriptwriter without him being there. He advised Nigerian movie directors to direct movies that will help in stabilising the polity" Ilo said.

Bond Emeruwa, a Nollywood producer and former president of Directors Guild of Nigeria said movie directing was an aspect of movie production that could not be taken for granted.

Emeruwa commended the movie industry for its achievements in the recent movies the industry was producing.

Mike Ekunno, a movie critic in Abuja, said that the director is the most important person for a good movie to be produced.

Ekunno urged Nigeria directors to apply more professionalism in directing movies.

"The director has the ability to make or mar a given script or production, therefore requires constant personal development to improve his directing skills. He also uses the script to communicate to the society and effectively using the acting crews to affect the lives of people in the society" Ekunno said.
