Abuja - The Director-General, National Centre for Women Development, Onyeka Onwenu, on Monday advised Nigerian to cherish and protect the country’s cultural diversity.
Onwenu said that the current security challenges in the country were because some Nigerians did not value the diversity imbedded in the country’s culture.
"We say no, this cannot be, we love this country, we appreciate Nigeria and Nigerians, we will stand together in unity and Nigeria will be blessed and peaceful again,’’ Onwenu said.
She said the security situation in the country was not enough for it’s over 250 ethnic nationalities to live in suspicion of one another.
"Our cultural diversity allows me to appreciate my own culture and by extension appreciate yours. I am using this opportunity to call on follow Nigerians to appreciate themselves, appreciate this country that God in His infinite wisdom has put together. Let us love ourselves, love our neighbours and love one another,’’ she said.
Onwenu said in spite of the many violent in the country each passing day, God have special blessing for the country.
She also urged Nigerians to be proud of Nigeria, speak their language with pride and express themselves with pride and appreciation for who they are and for their neighbours.
