Lagos - Playwright and academic, Sam Ukala's drama, Iredi War has won the 2014 Nigeria Prize for Literature, reports City Voice
Ukala, a Professor of Drama at the Delta State University, Abraka won the prize worth $100, 000.
He took the prize ahead of Jude Idada (Oduduwa, King of the Edos) and Friday John Abba (Alekwu Night Dance).
The Nigeria Prize for Literature rotates yearly amongst four literary genres: prose fiction, poetry, drama and children’s literature.
The 2014 prize is for drama and will move to children’s literature genre in 2015.
The prize is sponsored by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG).
