Beyoncé to make Saartjie Baartman movie

04 January 2016, 09:10

Los Angeles - Beyoncé is writing her own film.

The Drunk In Love hitmaker is reportedly keen to tell the story of Saartjie Baartman, a woman who was exhibited in freak shows in the 1800s for her large bottom, in a bid to bag an Academy Award and has hired a whole host of acting coaches and writers to make the movie happen.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Beyoncé is desperate to be taken seriously as an actress. Even though she's had a string of well-received movies, she still feels her breakthrough role is yet to come.

"She now wants to write a screenplay that gains her respect - and hopefully awards - from the film industry, and thinks Saartjie's story could be her ticket. Winning an Academy Award would mean everything to her, and she's a woman who is used to getting exactly what she wants."

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old star is also working on her sixth studio album and wants it to be "heavily urban".

A source said: "Studio bosses were keen for Beyoncé to have another big pop record. They wanted more hits like Drunk In Love and Pretty Hurts. But Beyoncé is fully in control of this release and decided she wanted a heavily urban record.''
