NFVCB sanctions Filmhouse cinema for invalid licence

Lagos - The Filmhouse IMAX Theatre, which recently opened in Nigeria, has been requested by National Film and Video Censors Board(NFVCB) to quit operations, reports Pulse.ng

According to a letter the  NFVCB discovered that the Film House Imax cinema at Lekki were opened without the registration and approval from the board in line with extant laws.

The body requested that the cinemas restrain from carrying on business in the unregistered premises with immediate effect.

According to an inside source, the IMAX cinema was shut down on Monday, September 26, 2016, but was reopened on Tuesday, September 28, 2016, after Filmhouse promised to comply.

In 2015, management of large-format film company, IMAX Corporation, signed a business pact with Kene Mkparu owned cinema company, Filmhouse Cinemas.
The  two film companies announced an agreement for an IMAX theatre to be built in Lagos, Nigeria.

The West Africa’s first IMAX movie theatre was launched on Friday, September 9, 2016.
