Nigeria misses out again on Oscars 2017

 Lagos - Nigeria did not submit an entry for the Oscars 2017 to be considered  in the Foreign Language Film category.

According to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, 85 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Foreign Language 89th Oscar category.
The 85 countries include "Algeria," "Egypt," "Lebanon," with Yemen as a first-time entrant.

The Academy will curtail the list to a shortlist which will be announced alongside other Oscar nominations on January 24, 2017 at Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

 The African films nominated in this category are;, ‘The Well’ from Algeria, and directed by  Lotfi Bouchouchi,  ‘Clash’ by  Mohamed Diab from Egypt,  ‘A Mile in My Shoes’ directed by Said Khallaf from Morroco and  ‘Call Me Thief’ by South African director,  Daryne Joshua.

Hungary took home the "Foreign Language Film" win in 2016 with the movie "Son of Saul."
