New app aims to increase adoption of fitness

26 August 2014, 09:18Henry Ifeanyi

Lagos - A new technology application has been launched with the hope of simplifying and making fitness an attractive lifestyle.

Truppr is the brainchild of Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Nigeria's Tech Start-Up firm, CcHUB, Bosun Tijani.

The app is a social tool that connects people, irrespective of their current lifestyle and shape, with physical activities and teammates in cities across the world.

With Android, iOS and web apps, Truppr provides a platform for a vibrant community of physical activity enthusiasts to make fitness a lifestyle through a simplified process of organising amateur sporting events and team mates.

According to the developer, the app is a one-stop shop for finding and booking sport venues in cities around the world.

The app also makes it easy to find team mates and fitness partners even while on business trips, holiday or in a new city.

Bosun said he created Truppr out of his own personal fitness. challenges.

"I play football for fun and fitness twice a week and. consistently struggled to keep the routine due to difficulty in finding. team mates and venues while on business trips or in new cities.”

He said millions of people globally rely on team sports and physical activities as a source of regular exercise and these are the people Truppr hoped to serve as a niche social tool.

According to Bosun, Truppr is available for use globally although his team is looking to drive mass adoption across Africa in its first year.

“We see the African market as a space that could provide the. right platform for us to grow sustainably considering the emerging interest in healthy living, a growing middle class, steady rise in. income levels and diffusion of ICT.

"We want to be part of that growth by. helping more people achieve their objective of making fitness a. lifestyle,” he said.

Truppr was incubated and funded by the Co-Creation Hub and has benefited from the Tony Elumelu Foundation early stage grant for technology. ventures.

The app is available for download on iTunes and Google Play stores.
