Baggage you need to hide when you are considering someone a potential spouse

25 August 2016, 11:13Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - Actually it is a bad thing when you keep things from your future spouse. It is totally ill advised. But this is Africa and everyone is never honest about what they even ate for breakfast.

Couples are not even the face they show their dates. Only the few are genuine that is why there is a high divorce rate for this generation; no one knows their partner until they marry them and wake up to them every day.

Baggage you should not hide

Kids- No matter where you are currently keeping them while pretending to be single and tight; they always come up and it will lead to what you are afraid of. Your spouse will eventually visit your parents and see the aliens. Your baby daddy or baby mother will show up at the most inconvenient time- you cannot hide these ones. You will have to provide for them and that directly means that your spouse will as well. They will find out. That is the point.

Let them choose to stick around after the fact but as long as you lie, you have just destroyed everything.

Sickness or STD

Sickness is not something you can help, but the bad ones like sickle cell, they need to know.

STD- If you have herpes you cannot hide it from someone you want to be with permanently.

Baggage you can keep to yourself

The crazy ex

They do ruin good relationships because you are still keeping them around and entertaining them. You cannot say that they will not leave you alone when you keep taking the calls and opening the door. Sometimes ignoring does work-eventually.

Fishy past

We all have them, okay, most of us do. Some things are just better left unsaid if they do not add but subtract from everything. For example, if you were once a stripper and changed your mind to become something better that does not involve you being naked but more toned down and professional; keep it to yourself. It does not need to be said.

If you once pushed a cart and you decided you do want a trophy wife who would never date someone ‘below’ her- it is okay to keep it to yourself.

Your family members

Your relatives can kill a fruitful relationship. Some of them your beau should never see until after the ceremony. Infact the less family events, the better. Because we all know that group that has no sensor and when they start talking you can cringe and kill yourself. They are the ones that will talk about your hidden kid/s, that forbidden thing you once did and just spill out everything. There are also the ones that make away with things from your boos house, or borrow money and it is just the first day.
