Girlfriend duties

25 August 2016, 08:34Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - The age old question being whether you should wash clothes on your weekends because he is ‘your’ man.

In my opinion no man is ever yours; men play too much. African men that is. A guy can date you just so he can have a cleaner he can have sex with. That is why some women can date a guy for 3years only to find out he fell in love last weekend and now he is marrying her.

She never even rinsed a spoon. Let me explain again, a man can date you for the convenience it brings him.

When he is choosing a wife, trust me he is not thinking about how clean his clothes have been these past few years. He used to wash them himself before you. Or how you wash utensils; we all know you can get a maid for that. Which we all do after marriage either way. Food matters though, I will not lie to you about it. If you are a good cook, it helps. If you suck- I hope you are profoundly educated and bringing a lot of money to the table, good-looking, funny and just a 10 on everything else. If you are 0 on everything, shaaaa… that is why you are worrying about washing clothes which will not help you anywhere. Men need to feel like he is taking away from himself but gaining in terms of marrying you hence the permanent commitment to you.

So how do you stay a girlfriend without feeling like you are being used and in the end; end up not even being picked?

You should be like me, I am rarely if ever bothered if a man wants to pick me or not; but I think that is because I have a lot of options. If I wake up tomorrow and decide I want to get married, I will get a man at the drop of a hat. Perks of being a ten on everything.

It is true, don’t do wife duties for a man you are not sure is yours. Just like he is withholding himself from you, so should you from him. Men do it to exploit the current woman in their life. If you do enough of this or that, you will get me only for you to end up being what I mentioned earlier and he chooses the woman he all along knew he wanted.

Get the commitment first. He wants to go for dates, go! He wants you to spend the weekend, doing what? If we are chilling, watching movies and getting drunk-okay. But if you are going there and you spend the whole weekend washing clothes, cleaning and polishing shoes- like you do not have your own laundry and you have been dating for two months; you have a problem. You have just placed yourself on the maid category. Outside dates are the key to a god start to a healthy progress to the altar. Play house from day one and see your life.

We only clean and pick up after men we have been dating for two years, and we are planning a wedding in July already. You, you are over here doing some other woman’s work. Continue! Don’t cry when he finally tells you ‘it is not you but him. Something changed.’ That is the best line men use to dump women. Then you see your replacement being taken out when you wanted that but never said. Kept quiet because you thought if you do enough of this, he will wake up to your awesomeness.

Be like my girlfriend, if her man feels like calling, she picks. If he wants to do whatever, she is busy with her hair and her life not searching her phone wondering if maybe her network is not okay.
