How do you ask the person you are married to, to get checked?

15 September 2016, 12:09Shakila Alivitsa

Abuja - As much as it is hard for people that are dating to bring up the subject; there is a certain confidence in a person that you feel when they bring up the subject as they get into a relationship with you.

Who would not want to be with a partner that is that careful?

Some people do get offended but when you think about it realistically, you want a person that tells you, ‘Let us go get tested.’

But what about married couples?

That is tricky - very tricky.

  1. If they had not been doing anything shady behind you, they now think you are; yet you wanted to get tested on assumption and keep being safe.
  2. It tells someone one of you is cheating and it might be none actually is
  3. From then on, there will be mistrust. All the way

I think married couples should have a 6 month if not yearly review of their status. Most marriages do not mean anything at the moment and so you will think, they are as faithful as I am being. Then one day someone comes and tells you they have given you something- something incurable in a worst case scenario! What will you do then?

There is no good way of telling your partner you want to be checked.

So it is two ways:

1. you keep quiet and just home they are not doing anything that might end up hurting you. Very risky or

2. You ask that you go for a check-up and that ruins your marriage but at least now you will be safe.

The only time you can approach this subject without any fear or backlash is if your partner is a cheater and you keep taking them back.

If they cheat once, and you consider a reconciliation, get tested. If they keep cheating, you have the right to demand for a check-up any time you want as long as they can’t be faithful and you choose to be with them for your own reasons.
