2015 general elections: what Nigerian youth must do

15 December 2014, 20:24

Kano - As the Advanced Learner's Dictionary (8th ed) puts it "Election is the process of choosing a person or a group of people for a position, especially a political position." Thus, this system has been adopted in Nigeria since 1999 when we transformed from dictatorship.

To this day, election has been an avenue through which Nigerians choose their leaders - traditionally every four years. Today,so many Nigerians are preparing to elect new leaders in the next year general elections, including: presidency, gubernatorial, senatorship, reps etc.

However, youths are the most vibrant citizens of every nation, Nigeria inclusive. Nigerian youths, statistically make 50% of the entire country's population. They are within the age range of 18-40. Meanwhile, youths are utilized in the processes of election: they join campaigns, they serve as agents; they serve as voters among other things. Therefore,as 2015 general elections beckon, youths must be very vigilant.

We must avoid elections rigging. We must avoid being used as agents of violence. We must not give room for corruption. We must ensure free, fair and credible elections. God bless Nigeria!
