As a God’s own state university, it won’t be out of place if Abia State University (ABSU) decides to take a break from academic work to worship the Lord. Last week, Abia State University Uturu, held a one day covenant service, with the theme: ‘The Lord, He is God.’

Held at the school auditorium, the chairman, ABSU Covenant Service, Professor E.A. Udensi, who is also the deputy vice chancellor, administration, in his remarks, said the reason for organising the covenant service was to draw the staff and students of the institution nearer to God, and also to pray to pray to God to put an end to the untimely deaths which have rocked the institution recently. The wife of the vice chancellor, Professor Stella Ogbuagu, read out the first Bible reading, while the Registrar, Dr E.N. Iheukwumere and the Students’ Union president, Israel Ahaemfuna, read the second and third Bible readings respectively.
The guest preacher at the event, Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor, preached extensively on the theme, while also encouraging the students to be more prayerful. In a vote of thanks, the Bursar, Mr Obioha Nduneri, thanked Bishop Ikeakor for honouring their invitation, while he also lauded the efforts of the Director of the programme , Rev. Dr. A.C. Akpanta in making the covenant service worthwhile. Speaking with Campusbeats, Fortune Ofoegbu, a 100-Level student of the Faculty of Medicine, said: “I felt the presence of the God while the service lasted and I feel blessed for attending this covenant service.” For Chisom Agiriga, a 100-Level student of the Department of Mass Communication, the service was inspiring and wonderful.
