It has been a long time waging a crucial war to offer the university system a new lease of life all these difficult years. Since the commencement of your laudable and intensive campaign of intellectual struggle in our universities, you have greatly been honoured to partake in the painstaking operation of building a virile and strong nation.Like the legendary Jimmy Cliff, struggle is your life.Like a rose among flowers, you emerge with the finest fruit of thoughts and orderly ideas to capture the mood of the nation. In defiance of the prevailing economic predicament, you have willingly vowed to forge ahead and remain faithful to imparting knowledge for the benefit of posterity. To the domain of vast knowledge you are a trustworthy companion.
Remember that you live in the midst of excessive affluence on one hand and abject squalor on the other hand.It is quite unfortunate that you helplessly watch how some reactionary elements resort to widespread squandermania through the raping of the public treasury when millions of Nigerians are denied decent and quality education. You don't need to be told certain dangerous characters who move heaven and earth to transform Nigeria into a banana republic.Truely, you know those full- fledged political opportunists who have vehemently defied all progressive tendencies to become the agents of tragedy while at the same time you are left with the cumbersome burden of reviving the battered university system.
Continue to offer us a well developed struggle that will enable us see the light at the end of the tunnel.Keep sharing with us the felicity of being committed to a noble cause for the betterment of today and tomorrow.Strive not to let university education falls apart until the government yields to the voice of reasoning with sober reflections. The late Martin Luther King was right when he put this philosophy:'The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands at the time of comfort and convenience but where he stands at the time of challenges and controversies.'
By God's grace, you shall live to conquer the greatest challenges. As long as you remain unbreakable and unshakable in the face of controversies, you shall have the last laughter and he who laughs last laughs best. It is beyond reasonable doubt that you proudly live to relegate the phenomenon of half baked graduates to the background.Professionally, you are very courageous in disregarding unnecessary quest for illegitimate riches so that your laudable as well as gigantic project of intellectual development survives the toughest time. From practical evidences, you have successfully violated all the protocol of unjingoism to strive in the construction of a legacy of academic excellence in which a mind packaged with great intellectual substance for salvation is created and boosted.
As keen researchers, renowned scholars, sharp critics, study the unfolding national and popular strike with a view to drawing a logical conclusion which will be in favour of the ailing university system. For quite a long time, the central theme of ASUU strike has centered on adequate funding of universities. Is it not disheartening that for instance, some PG students of ABU squat in the mosque due to inadequate accommodation while the government finds it more patriotic to donate billions of naira for film makers? It is therefore not surprising that not a single university in Nigeria is ranked among the 50 best in Africa! While the government continues to let the strike live longer than neccessary, you should strike to let the government understands that strike is the language of persuation.
As true compatriots,we have seen how you gather enomous courage to enrich the nation with fresh citizens who allow the
university to academically pass through them.Like the volcanic eruption you explode to establish the evidence of guilt against the government and keep the rest of us optimistic of bright future. No doubt, your successful entrenchment of a unified purpose of belonging will continue to strengthen and balance your intergrity. Will you want to be among those intergrity is questionable?
You will find among Nigerians who have parted ways with your well defined struggle.Be critical with insight and share with them the sorrow of misunderstanding your collective stand. This will lift your solicited fight to greater heights. Interestingly, majority of Nigerians share with you the joy of a prolonged struggle.
